What: California to the Carolinas, “We Can Do This” Disabled Sports 24/7 Road Bicycling Adventure #W2E2016 #CttC2016

Who: 12 disabled, paralyzed, wounded, injured and able-bodied cyclists (military veterans, civilians and supporters)

Where: Cycling 3,113 miles from Camp Pendleton, CA to Camp Lejeune, NC

When: April 10-24, 2016

Why:

  • Heightening awareness for military veterans and athletes who are injured, wounded, and/or paralyzed along with their caregivers – demonstrating “We Can Do This” and so can you
  • Raising funds and awareness for the Semper Fi / America Fund, Carolinas HealthCare System’s Carolinas Rehabilitation, the Independence Fund, NCServes and AmericaServes
  • Highlighting the US Olympic Committee’s Paralympic Trials in Charlotte in June/July

How:

  • Following the caregiver – wounded veteran model, 5 teams of 2 athletes (1 able and one disabled) will cycle and push each other for ~2hrs then rotate with another pair of cyclists until all teams have crossed the country
  • Time to complete: 10.5 days or 252hrs covering 3,113 miles with breaks in San Antonio, Charlotte, and Myrtle Beach

Planned Schedule:

  • April 8th: Team flies to San Diego, CA
  • April 10th: Cycling adventure begins (Camp Pendleton)
  • April 14th: Team arrives in Marlin, TX (overnight stay)
  • April 15th: Team departs for Charlotte, NC
  • April 19th: Team arrives CHS LiveWELL, 801 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC
  • April 21st-23rd:Team joins ASAP, riding from CHS Monroe to N. Myrtle Beach, SC
  • April 24th: Team completes the cross country, arriving in Camp Lejeune
  • April 24th – 25th: Returns to Charlotte, mission complete, “We Did This”!
